Spanish Immersion
¡Bienvenidos a Lake Anne!
The Lake Anne Partial-Immersion Program in Spanish began in 1994. The program is supported by a philosophy that all children can learn a second language and that the responsibility for this learning is shared by both the home and school. Administrators, teachers, parents, and other community members work together to ensure that the educational needs of all students are met in a safe and nurturing learning environment.
The students spend half a day receiving instruction in mathematics, science, and health in Spanish. The other portion of the day, the students switch classrooms for language arts and social studies in English.
In September, 2002 Lake Anne Elementary took a challenge to be the first school to open its doors to Two Way Immersion Program for Kindergarten. In September, 2003 three other FCPS schools adopted the pilot Kindergarten program. The goals of this program are to develop literacy skills in both Spanish and English and to succeed academically in both languages.
