Trip Around the World

The day started with the principal, playing the part of a flight attendant, making an announcement to the students. She wished them a safe voyage around the world.

Students were welcomed on board their flight. They were told to fasten their seatbelts and secure their tray tables. Then the inflight movie (PowerPoint presentation) started. The movie featured information about the continent of their destination.

After they arrived at their destination, students were encouraged to join in two activities. One was either music or movement-based and the other was a craft related to the continent.
In Australia, students used glitter glue to mark the equator and the continent "Down Under."

In Antarctica one of the PE teachers got into the act by narrating an exploration of the land. Students walked like penguins and made food chains representative of those in Antarctica.

In South America, students took butterflies on a migration from North America all the way to the South American rainforest. Then a parent explained how to fold an origami frog.

Students also labeled the layers of the rainforest and placed animals and their pictures in the proper layer. Teachers even got in on the act.

When they arrived in North America, students created a Powhatan canoe and were later given a bag of unpopped popcorn which had an explanation of how to pop the corn and how the Native Americans used popcorn.

In Asia, students joined hands to become the lion in a Chinese New Year parade.

Then they created Chinese lanterns.

Once in Europe, students constructed a mobile with important facts about Rome, Greece and European explorers. They also sang a song about ancient Rome and Greece.

In Africa, they made name scroll necklaces, writing their names in hieroglyphics and rolling them up onto yarn.

They sang the King Tut Rap.

After visiting each continent, the passport was stamped.
Each child had their own "carry on luggage" made by a parent.
