Parents and
friends were invited to the Opening Ceremony of the PowWow
in the school gymnasium. A video of authentic indian dancing
was projected on the gymnasium wall and the lights were
turned out. The different groups of indians were introduced
by two mistress of ceremonies. There were flag carriers,
horseriders, dancers, and instrument carrying indians.
Students performed indian dances they had learned in P.E.
class and chants they had learned in Music.
Several
students also had individual performances. One sang a song
she had written about an indian girl and another read an
indian legend.
