Our art teacher, Mrs. Bannon, helped the students to create large cardboard standup heroes. This one is George Washington Carver but we had many others. (George Washington, Abe Lincoln, Martin Luther Kings and Betsy Ross were a few.)

We painted the characters on large pieces of cardboard, cut them out, gave them nametags and attached them to a stack of boxes with another character on the back. Then we draped black fabric in the middle.

This one is Harriet Tubman.
