Econ in a Bag

During their study of economics, students and their table groups earned money for various tasks.

They kept track of their money each day.
Students created economic posters in the computer lab.
Each group received a large brown paper bag filled with supplies.

The group looked over the supplies and decided what product(s) they could manufacture. Then they came up with a business name.

After students looked through print ads, the art teacher talked to them about logos and advertising. Then they designed logos for their businesses.
The music teacher helped them develop jingles.

Print ads were created for each business as well.

Then they were ready to put together their ads and have them videotaped. Those were played on the tv on sale day.
Teachers got into the act by creating store fronts.

Sale day arrived and the businesses set up shop.
Students browsed the shops before the actual sale began.
Sales were fast and furious.
Even some adults got in on the action.

Customers all seemed to be happy with their purchases.

Workers counted their money and divided the profits among business owners.

Then the class discussed the sale using those all-important economic terms.

That afternoon, workers visited the movie shop and purchased a movie ticket, snacks and a few more goodies.
Then the workers settled down for a well-deserved rest and watched their movie.
