This is a penny.
Abraham Lincoln is on the front of the penny. The
Lincoln Memorial is on the back of the penny. It is
made out of 97.5% zinc and 2.5% copper. Until 1981,
it was made out of 95% copper and 5% zinc. You may
think that a penny is worth only 1¢, but it
isn't. Some pennies are worth $275,000. These
valuable pennies were minted in 1793. There are
only four known to exist today. The penny has been
minted in Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Denver,
West Point and San Francisco. There have been 11
different designs on the penny. The penny used to
be stamped with a cross until 1500. About 1,040
pennies are minted every second. That is 30,000000
a day. There are over 130 billion pennies currently
in circulation.
