Lesson: Spreadsheets with Smarties-Graph Directions

Directions for Creating a Graph
from Your Spreadsheet
Insert your disk and double click on the
disk icon. Double click on the icon for Graphing
Smarties.
Highlight the spreadsheet by using the
top left corner cell. Choose Options, Make Chart . This
brings up a dialog box. In the Gallery section, choose the
bar and click "OK".
Your graph appears on the spreadsheet
page. Move your graph below your spreadsheet by placing your
cursor somewhere inside the graph, holding down the mouse
button and dragging it to the correct location. Use the
scroll bar to scroll down and see the whole graph. You can
put your pointer on the grab handles on corners of the graph
to resize it.
Label the graph. Double click inside the
graph. Choose Axes from the Modify section. You are going
to give the Y axis a title. It should be called " Number of
Smarties." Click OK. You may need to resize your graph
again. Use the grab handles.
Double click inside the graph again.
Choose Axes from the Modify section. You are going to give
the X axis a title. Click in the X axis roado button. It
should be called "Color of Smarties." Click OK.
Double click inside the graph again.
Choose Label from the Modify section. You are going to
give the graph a title. It should be called
"Graphing Smarties." Click OK.
Now you can change the graph colors.
Click in a box on the graph legend. Click on your show tools
button or go to View, Show Tools . Use the paint bucket to
choose a new color. You can do this to all three graph
colors if you would like.
You are ready to save this to your disk.
Go to File, then Save As . Choose Desktop . Double click
your disk icon. Then name your document "Graphing Smarties
2." Click on Save .
Print your document.
Go to File and Quit. Take out your
disk. It's your partner's turn.
