Life Cycle

Egg

The Painted Lady female lays its eggs on the plant it eats. The eggs are the size of a pin head. When the butterfly lays its egg it's a pale green .

The caterpillar eats non-stop 5-10 days. The caterpillar molts 5-6 times during the larval stage. When the caterpillar has grown full size it starts to pupate.

Larva

Pupa

When the caterpillar turns into a pupa it turns into liquid and reforms into a beautiful butterfly. Then it pushes its way out of the pupa.

The butterfly has scales on its wings. When the adult butterfly comes out of its pupa it hangs itself upside down and pumps blood into its wings inflating them. The butterfly has to wait for its wings to dry before it can fly.
