Marco Polo's Travels

Marco Polo was 17 when he went to China in 1271 with his father and uncle.
The Polos went to Asia to trade.
The Polos stayed in China for 15 years.
They traveled to China, Persia, India, Burma,Vietnam, Malaysia, Sumatra and the Island of Sri Lanka.
They returned to Venice, Italy in 1295 after traveling over 15,000 miles.
They had been gone for 24 years.
Nobody recognized the Polos and they didn't believe their stories.
The Polos dressed in Chinese silks and had a big party. Then they ripped open their shirts to reveal all the jewels that they had brought back from Asia.
When the Polos returned Venice and Genoa were at war. Marco was captured and put into prison.
In prison he wrote a book called Description of the World.
Marco Polo died in 1324 when he was 70 years old. While on his deathbed, he said "I didn't tell half of what I saw, because no one would have believed me."
