Places He Explored!

Sir Francis Drake was sent by Queen Elizabeth I to seek treasure and spices. He wanted to become the first Englishman to sail around the world. He also wanted to discover the legendary land known as Terra Australis Incognita or Australia.

Drake sailed from England on December 13, 1577. He reached Port St. Julian then sailed through the Magellan Strait to Tierra del Guego. He then continued north and later changed his direction and sailed south where he was close to modern day San Francisco. From here he sailed across the Pacific Ocean and returned to England on September 26, 1580. In these three years he robbed and destroyed other ships and he discovered the island of Terra del Fuego while trying to find Australia.
