This is the
Kennedy half dollar. It is worth 50¢. There
have been four different kinds of half dollars.
They are called the Barber, Walking Liberty,
Franklin, and Kennedy. The Kennedy is the only kind
in circulation these days. The first half dollar,
the Barber, was issued from 1892-1915. The Walking
Liberty was issued from 1916-1947. The Franklin was
issued from 1948-1963. The Kennedy has been issued
from 1964-today. John F. Kennedy is on the front of
the half dollar. The Presidential Coat of Arms is
on the back. The Barber, Walking Liberty, and
Franklin half dollars were made of 90% silver and
10% copper. The Kennedy is made of 75% copper and
25% nickel bonded to pure copper core. The silver
dollar disappeared from circulation following the
introduction , in 1964, of the Kennedy half dollar.
