Welcome to the Kings Park School Library! I love books and children and hope to instill in your child, a similar, life-long love of books and reading. A weekly library class is especially important during the primary grades. All KP students come to the library weekly for a 30 minute class. We read new and classic books to the children, introducing them to a wide variety of fiction and nonfiction. They work on library skills, often with a lesson reflecting their classroom curriculum. Then they select and check out their library books for the week. During their years at KP, they learn how to evaluate and select books that are appropriate for their interests and abilities. From kindergarten on they learn about different types of books in the library until, by the time they reach third grade, they are able to use the reference materials and search the computer catalog to find the information and materials they need.
If you are interested in volunteering to help with day-to-day tasks or with special library programs please contact Tish Oliver by email or telephone at 703-503-7008.
