Homework is a key point of contact between home and school. You can help by creating a home environment that reinforces the school message of the importance of education and that life is enriched by learning. Homework is assigned to reinforce skills taught in the classroom and to enrich the school experience. Teachers decide on the amount and type of work considering the level, maturity, and ability of the child. School expectations for overall homework time do not exceed 30 minutes plus daily reading time. Your child’s teacher will provide with you with customized information about homework expectations on the 24-7 Learning site. Fairfax County's Center for Promoting Family Learning and Involvement offers classes, parenting tips, and resource for families.
The school year is divided into four nine-week grading periods. At the end of the first nine-week period, the teacher will schedule a conference with you to discuss your child’s progress. At the end of each grading period, you will receive a printed progress report.
Family newsletters sent home on the last Tuesday of each month will keep you informed of school-wide events, achievements, and notices. The back page of each issue includes a calendar that many parents post on their refrigerators. With the exception of emergency announcements, you will typically receive school newsletters, student work, and communications on Tuesdays in your child’s“Take Home Tuesday” envelope. Please empty and review its contents, then send the envelope back to school each Wednesday.
Kings Park enjoys the support of an extensive volunteer program. We would love to have you involved! Please contact your child’s teacher or the PTA for details. Courtesy of PTA funding, classes may take field trips during the year that relate directly to the instructional program. Parents are often accompany the class as chaperons. Two class parties per year are also arranged between the teacher and room parents. For supervisory reasons, younger siblings are not included in field trips and class parties.
