Interstate Van Lines

"Kings Park Rolls with Interstate" is the title of an exciting project that is supporting students geography, math, and writing skills. Drivers from Interstate have been matched with third grade classes. Each class has met and interviewed their driver. Currently, the drivers are on the road and are sending back postcards and other souvenirs from interesting places along the way. Interstate has also provided cameras so that drivers can share pictures when they return. Students are mapping the routes, calculating the distances traveled, and learning about time zones. They are also using their writing skills to communicate with their drivers.

On September 29th, third graders visited the Interstate facility to get a close up look at a variety of trucks, packing materials, the warehouse and the Interstate training "house." The famous Interstate billboard, visible from Rolling Road, read "Welcome Kings Park School". When the bus pulled into the lot, the students were welcomed by a large group of Interstate employees who acted as their tour guides. Interstate Van Lines also provided pizza and drinks for all of the students, teachers, and chaperons. For more information and a description of the field trip, check out the field trip page.

As the year progresses, more plans will involve other grade levels.
