KPOV News visits News Channel 8

On Wednesday, April 14, 1999, third grade students who have had the opportunity to participate on KPOV, took a tour of the News Channel 8 studios. Comparisons were made between the two shows and the students came back with lots of new ideas they would like to try.

The cameras at Channel 8 are remotely operated from this control room.
At KPOV students operate the camera!

Ch. 8 graphics are downloaded off the Internet
Our graphics come from computer programs and the Internet
It takes lots of equipment and tv monitors to put on a professional news show.
We think we do a pretty good job with some special equipment of our own!
It looks like our students are standing in front of the weather map.
They're really standing in front of a "green screen" and the map is on monitors on either side of them.
Everybody wants to be an anchor!
Here's what we would look like if we were on Channel 8!
Did you know that anchors have to write their own scripts?
Mrs. Rabbu writes the scripts for KPOV News!

 ALLNEWSCO and INTERSTATE VAN LINES

On September 29th, Kings Park third graders visited Interstate Van Lines and a film crew from ALLNEWSCO, News Channel 8, was there to film the event. That night a short clip was featured on the local news about the "Kings Park Rolls With Interstate" project.

The film crew is busy capturing a group of excited third graders and Interstate staff.

Who is ALLNEWSCO?

NEWSCHANNEL 8 is the Washington, DC, metro area's 24-hour local news source. It provides community-based, solution-oriented news coverage to more than one million cable television homes in suburban Maryland, Northern Virginia, and the District of Columbia. It differs from traditional area TV news coverage, because it allows 24-hour access to news and information, and does so in a straight-forward, matter-of-fact, non-sensationalized manner.

NEWSCHANNEL 8 also telecasts weekly specialty programs like Healthline, Entertainment Forecast, and the seasonal High School Football Final, as well as the nightly SportsTalk with Glenn Harris. In addition, through an exclusive venture with ABC, viewers can watch time-shifted network programming like ABC World News Tonight, Nightline, 20/20, Primetime Live, This Week, and Turning Point.

NEWSCHANNEL 8 has a dozen camera crews and reporters covering local news, using Microwave and Satellite News Gathering technology to bring stories to viewers. It also offers live coverage from its DC and Rockville news bureaus. Viewers can also find NEWSCHANNEL 8 on their home or office computer at NEWSCHANNEL8.net. NEWSCHANNEL 8's overall coverage has been honored with both Emmy and Cable ACE awards, as well as honors from The Radio-Television News Directors Association and the Virginia Associated Press.

NEWSCHANNEL 8 transmits its signal to all of its cable affiliates via the Bell Atlantic fiber optic network.
