Mission Statement
The mission of Kings Glen
Elementary is based on the belief that all students can
learn. We are committed to setting high standards for
student achievement within a caring, supportive environment
that is conducive to the development of self-esteem and self
motivation. Student achievement is enhanced by matching
instructional programs with student readiness and learning
style. Our students are encouraged to realize that they are
responsible for their actions as learners and contributing
citizens.
We believe that community, students, and
staff must work together to facilitate academic achievement
through:
- providing a safe learning
environment;
- fostering acceptance and respect for
individual differences;
- stimulating intellectual curiosity
and independent thinking, and
- preparing for life in a global
society.
School Plan
The development of our School Plan was a
collaborative effort of the Kings Glen Elementary staff and
our community to focus on identified student needs and the
needs of our instructional programs. As such, three major
objective areas were identified for the duration of the
plan: Character Education (respect, responsibility, and
service to others), Communication Skills (oral language,
writing, and reading), Mathematics (enhanced mathematics
achievement for all students with an emphasis on problem
solving). Indicators of achievement and multiple work plans
for each objective were also determined and will be assessed
annually. The following organization/communication
structures and timeline have supported our planning
process:
Organization/Communication
Structures
- Steering Committee is composed of the
principal, PTA chairperson, PTA co-chairperson (Kings
Glen), PTA special education representative, and the four
school committee chairpersons - language arts, character
education and mathematics (co-chairpersons).
- The role of the steering committee is
to work with the principal in all aspects of developing
and writing the school plan. Members serve as liaisons
between their committees and the total steering
committee. They are expected to review all School Plan
input; coordinate staff updates/discussions at faculty
meetings; meet regularly to review the development
objectives, work plans, and performance indicators; and
identify target populations; and determine/coordinate
data collection procedures.
- Committee Chairpersons work directly
with the principal in all aspects of the School Plan.
They coordinate efforts of all committee members to
ensure that work plans are developed/implemented and
communicated to the total staff. With collaborative input
from their committee members, they also assess all
available data needed to identify student needs and the
needs of our instructional programs. In addition, they
schedule regular meetings with their committees and
prepare meeting summary reports for the Steering
Committee.
- Kings Glen Committee Members
represent a cross section of the overall Kings Glen
faculty and staff. They work within their committees (as
determined by their committee responsibilities) to
identify work plans / performance indicators, and
determine how to collect/analyze data. They also provide
guidance to their committee chairperson and serve as
liaisons between committees and teams (grade level,
specialists, instructional assistants) to communicate
information regarding the School Plan.
- Community Committee Members are
represented on each of the three School Plan Objective
Committees. They provide each committee with input
reflecting community concerns and focus.
