Virtual Library Home > Frequently Asked Questions

1. How many books may I check out at one time?
Each student may check up to four books at one time

2. How long can I keep the books I borrow?
The check-out time on books is three weeks. Allowing for weekends and holidays, the due date is always three weeks (or more) from the day of check-out.

3. Are there fines for overdue materials?
No, there are no fines for overdue materials.

4. What if I keep something late?
If a student has a late book, that student will receive an overdue notice through his/her English teacher. If the student fails to return the item(s), the student will continue to receive overdue notices. Each notice is also a bill for the item(s) in case the item is actually lost. The student is expected to either return the item or to pay for it if it is lost or damaged.

5. What if my dog chews my library book or my friend borrows it from me and doesn't return it?
Each student is responsible for the library materials he/she borrows. If an item is lost or damaged while it is officially in a student's care, the student is expected to pay the replacement cost of the item. Checking out materials for friends is not allowed.

6. May I borrow magazines?
No, magazines may not be checked out. Magazines are used in the library for research and for recreational reading. Issues, other than the current issue, are given away free of charge.  Stop by the circulation desk to view our collection of magazines that you may take to read.

7. When can I come to the library?
Teachers will bring students to the library as a class for either research or check-out, or both. At other times, students may come to the library during class time on a pass from a teacher, during their lunchtime on a pass from the cafeteria, and they may stay after-school on late bus days (Mondays and Wednesdays) to study or do research in the library.

8. Can I print from the computers?
Yes, we have a black-and-white printer in the Library; printouts cost $0.10 per page.

9. Does the Library have a photocopier?
Yes, we have a photocopy machine available for student use. Photocopies cost $0.10 per page and Librarians are happy to show students how to use the machine.

10. When can I stay late to do homework in the library?
The library is open after school for work on homework or class-related research on Mondays until 3:35 pm and on Wednesdays until 3:50 pm. Students must sign-up IN ADVANCE in order to stay after in the Library. Students are expected to make arrangements to stay after school before they leave home in the morning (school policy) so that they can be in the library (or any other school activity) by 2:40 p.m. Students arriving at any activity after 2:40pm will receive an after school tardy.
