LIBRARY POLICIES
Books
Books may be checked out for a three week period and may be renewed if books
do not have a "hold" placed on them. Reference books may be
checked out overnight only. Students with overdue materials may not
check out any additional items. Fines are not accrued for overdue
books, however, the current replacement cost is charged for lost
books.
Periodicals
Current issues of subscribed magazines may not leave the library.
Past issues may be checked out for a one week period. Magazines may not
be renewed.
Overdue Notices
Overdue notices are published weekly and sent to the students through
their Homeroom classes. Three notices are sent. The fourth notice is a
replacement bill. The replacement cost is the amount required to
purchase and process a new book. All students are held responsible for
materials checked out under their name. No student may check out materials
for another student.
Returning Materials
Students may return materials to the library before or after school.
Any student returning materials during lunch, homeroom classes and on late
bus days must have a pass.
LIBRARY HOLDINGS
The library's holdings consist of more than 10,000 books, paperbacks, DVD and
VHS videos, CD-ROMs and other non-print materials. Professional review
sources and the recommendations from faculty, parents, and students are used
for collection development... The library's holdings are structured to
support the state's Standards of Learning (SOL), the county's Program of
Studies (POS), as well as the recreational and research needs of our diverse
middle school population.
TECHNOLOGY SERVICES
The library's online catalog system is part of the Fairfax County Public
School Web-based iBistro union catalog. All workstations are site
specific for Key's holdings and are available to access the Internet.
Students must have permission (Acceptable Use Form signed and returned) to
use the Internet. Use of the Internet is for educational purposes
only. Prior to accessing the Internet students must submit the required
permission form obtained from their classroom teacher.
PROGRAMS
Throughout the school year, our students will be participating in several
programs coordinated and sponsored by the library - Teen Read Week, Read Across America Day, National Library Week
(Dates TBA), and the year long reading incentive program entitled Virginia Readers Choice
- Middle School Program.
