Vocational
The vocational program prepares students for future employment.
Students are involved in on-and-off-site training. For example, Key
Center School has a vocational workshop where students perform materials-handling
activities along with packaging, sorting, and assembling activities.
Newsletters from the community, including various school newsletters, are printed, collated, folded, and stapleld in the workshop. Students are also
receiving training in the community to teach those work readiness
skills such as following directions, staying on task, asking for help when necessary, and
completing assigned tasks. Some of the community work sites are:
-
Comfort Inn
-
Fairfax County Public Schools - Instructional Materials Center
-
Heatherwood Retirement Community
-
Key Middle School Cafeteria
-
Pohick Library
-
In-School work crews
The ultimate goal for the students at Key Center
School is inclusion, which refers to belief that individuals with
disabilities be involved in the mainstream of society through
educational and/or community experiences. Inclusion, as a goal,
provides benefits to individuals with disabilities through
integration, which also benefits society through positive
interactions and knowledge.
