Music and Sensory at Key Center
The Music program at Key Center is taking on a new look this year by integrating a sensory component! Students will explore a variety of themes this year revolving around seasons, holidays, and places to visit! We have begun the year with a “Camping” theme. The classroom is decorated like a campground, we’ve been singing and playing instruments to campfire songs, and are exploring camping using our senses. Sleeping bags, stars, nature sounds, outdoor textures, and even s’mores are all involved in the class! The year should prove to be anything but boring!
Our goal in this class is to make music and sensory activities fun and accessible for each one of our students. Music and Sensory integration help many of our students become better able to process sensations from their bodies and environments. As a result students may feel more relaxed, more alert, or simply better able to comprehend their surroundings. Additionally, students can improve such skills as grasping, communicating, walking, and making decisions. Feel free to come and join us for a class sometime this year. It’s always a fun time in Music and Sensory!
