Hearing

At Key Center School, an itinerant teacher and an audiologist provide services to students at Key Center who are deaf or hard of hearing.  Services range from the monitoring/consulting level to direct services as indicated in each student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP). These services support students’ participation in the classroom curriculum.   Activities may include work on listening skills, use and care of amplification, communication skills, language development, and self advocacy, among others.  Staff members monitor and support the use of hearing aids for those students who use them.  In addition, the audiologist fits and provides assistive listening devices when appropriate.  A complete description of Fairfax County Public Schools' services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing is available here.
