Assistive Technology

  • National Organization Caring for Kids (NOCK) - The mission of the National Organization Caring for Kids is to improve the quality of life for special needs children through the use of assistive technology.
  • Ablity Hub - The purpose is to help users find information on adaptive equipment and alternative methods available for accessing computers. This website attempts to reduced the size of the haystack and bring you the information in an orgranized fashion.
  • Family Guide to Assistive Technology - This Guide is intended to help parents learn more about assistive technology and how it can help their children. The Guide includes tips for getting started, ideas about where to look for money, and suggestions for what to do when applying for funding. Places to contact for more information or to find software and equipment are listed in the Appendix at the end of the Guide.
  • National Assistive Technology Research Institute - Contains an Assistive Technology Planner which is designed to support teachers, families, and administrators as they work in collaboration with other IEP team members in planning and implementing assistive technology (AT) services. The planner consists of a separate booklet for teachers, families, and administrators.
  • Fairfax County Public Schools Assistive Technology Services - ATS makes FCPS students with disabilities our #1 priority in offering:
    • Communication devices to help students who are nonverbal.
    • Adapted access to both computers and augmentative communication devices.
    • Computer-assisted instruction (CAI) to students in both the special education and inclusive classroom settings.
    • Assistive technology to help students with vocational preparation and career training.
