  • 6/22 Book Your Summer: Rising 1st through 12th grade students are invited to use the "READ!" activity card to help them choose a variety of genres and activities to keep reading enjoyable all summer long. Students who complete a "READ!" across the card in any direction should submit their card online or on paper by September 7th. (It's like BINGO, but with books!) After September 7th, at every school, students at each grade level will be randomly selected to receive $50 in free books. PLUS, one student from each school will be randomly selected to receive a laptop!!! For more information check out the Book Your Summer website and look for a Book Your Summer "READ!" card in your child's backpack the last week of school.
  • 6/22 Summer Reading: Parents and students are invited to join us at the Dolley Madison Library during the summer.  We will meet on July 6, 13, 20, 27 and August 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 from 6:00-8:00pm.  This is a perfect opportunity to have a book talk or learn about a new book.  We have invited our staff so please come join us! Students must be accompanied by an adult.  Please contact Sheri Emory at sheri.emory@fcps.edu with questions.
  • 6/8 Bands / Strings Music Selection: We had a great band and string concerts recently.  ALL rising 4th, 5th and 6th grade parents should choose their child’s music selection for the 2016-17 school year in order for your child(ren) to be placed in the appropriate/preferred music class..  Should you have questions, please email Alison Parrell akparrell@fcps.edu or Art Pittman jpittman@fcps.edu with band questions.  Strings questions can be directed to Kara Thibodeau, knthibodeau@fcps.edu or Starlet Smith at sasmith4@fcps.edu. Rising 4th grade students are given the option of joining strings (most students participate), while 5th and 6th grade students are given the option of participating in strings OR band.  Note that almost all 4th grade students participate (approximately 97%). Students who choose band or strings will have one general music class a week, and one instrumental music lesson a week. Students who choose NOT to do band or strings will have two general music classes a week.   • 5/16 Sixth Grade Student Party: Wednesday, June 22nd 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.  Sixth grade student party at school in the gym.  This party was a huge success last year and is sure to be a fun time this year. JoAnn Sears is coordinating the event with other volunteers.  Please contact her if you have additional questions.
  • 5/16 Sixth Grade Farewell: Wednesday, June 22nd  6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.  Sixth Grade Farewell at the Temple Rodef Shalom. Each student will receive 4 tickets per family.  Students do not require a ticket in order to enter the ceremony.  Families are encouraged to work with other families if additional tickets are needed. We will distribute the tickets in late May/early June.
  • 4/28 KG Summer Camp: Our week-long camps offer everything from high tech, low tech and no tech - and some are even taught by our own KG teachers! Click here to take a look at the offerings and count on some fun! Registration ends May 7, with camps beginning July 5.
  • 4/28 Budget Updates:  Thanks to all of the KGES families and staff that attended rallies and sent letters, emails, tweets and messages through Facebook in support of FCPS. The Board of Supervisors passed a budget that includes funds to increase teachers’ salaries and reduce class sizes. Click here to read the statement by Superintendent Dr. Karen Garza.   • 4/28 Sixth Grade Parents: Sixth grade parents please note that you may enroll your child in Start to Success at Longfellow from August 15th to August 19th.   • 3/3 Fall registration is open for the 2016-2017 school year for all new students in Kent Gardens boundary.  Registration information and paperwork can be found here on our website under parent information and also at the FCPS website http://www.fcps.edu/index.shtml  under registration.  You may drop off paperwork in our office between the hours of 8am and 4pm Monday through Friday.
