FCPS Mathematics Programs of Studies (POS)
The FCPS Mathematics Programs of Studies (POS) define the instructional programs that must be implemented in mathematics in the middle school. Each POS describes the curriculum content and identifies the essential knowledge and skills taught in the instructional program.

Mathematics Course Sequence
Mathematics courses, from Grade 6 through Grade 12, should be completed in sequence since each course provides the prerequisite knowledge and skills for the follow-on course. The Course Sequence Chart (PDF) shows the flow of mathematics courses through the end of high school.
Promotion Benchmarks
The Student Accountability Plan requires elementary and middle school students to meet specific academic Promotion Benchmarks at the end of each grade from kindergarten through eighth grade. In addition, all students in seventh and eighth grade must pass the English, mathematics, science, and social studies courses in which they are enrolled. Students who do not meet the promotion criteria will be required to attend summer school. The Student Accountability Plan requires students to meet specific Promotion Benchmarks for each middle school mathematics course. The Promotion Benchmarks are provided in the following tables:
