Field trip for STEM Neighborhood project
7th grade students participated in a field trip to the Spring Village Estates Development (next to the Greensprings Assisted Living) which is currently under development by the Foundation of Applied Technical Education (FATE) and simulated by the students in 7th grade Science, Technology & Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) classes at Irving. This opportunity provided time for students to speak with the all professionals involved with the current FATE residential neighborhood. A guided tour of a house in the early stages of the construction process and one that is almost ready to hit the open market was offered in addition to a walkthrough of the residential land site. What’s unique about this field trip is that the students involved in the 7th grade cross-curricular STEM project were actually able to view the progress of the development they have been working on during the second semester at Irving. Experiences like this one help create connections to careers in STEM and hopefully pave pathways to future career opportunities once students leave Irving and further their education. Slideshow here.
