Hunters Woods Featured on Red Apple 21!

At Hunters Woods all children in grade 3 - 6 develop composition skills as part of the general music curriculum.  The compositions that students create range from simple melodies using pentatonic scales to complex instrumental and vocal compositions using the full diatonic scale, chord progressions, harmonies and percussion accompaniments. The music department of Hunters Woods is a very innovative organization.  All children in third grade take strings.  At fourth grade students can continue with strings or choose to select a band instrument.  The faculty at Hunters Woods wanted to stop a pull out program for strings and band.  Some students wanted to play an instrument, but found that missing core subject time weekly was too difficult and they had to drop out of the program.  Hunters Woods through block scheduling created a way to have strings, band and chorus become part of the specials schedule.  Students now can participate without missing any classroom activities.  The percentage of student participation in the strings and band programs is very impressive.
