Lourdes Presnell - Clinic Aid

A Few Reminders and Guidelines from the Clinic

Clinic Services - The clinic is available for the daily health care and concerns of the students.

  • Children that have a fever of 100 degrees or higher cannot be in school.  It is recommended that they be fever free for 24 hours before returning to class.   This also applies if your child has vomited or has had diarrhea, it is best to keep them at home as they could spread a communicable disease to their classmates or teacher.
  • Elementary school students are never allowed to carry any medication to or from school.  A parent must deliver it to the school with the appropriate authorization form and they are responsible for picking it up.
  • All prescription medications require an authorization form to be filled out by the parent and the physician.  Prescription medications must to be in the original packaging with the pharmacy label attached.
  • All over-the-counter medications may be given for up to ten consecutive days as long as a medication authorization form is completed and signed by the parent and they have labeled the container with the name of the student, dosage, and time to be administered.
  • Students may use non-medication products such as lip balm and sunscreen.  Cough drops and throat lozenges may be carried and used as long as they are in the original packaging and are not shared with other students.
  • Forms authorizing the school to administer medication are available in the school office or online.  Click on ‘forms’ to take you to the link.

New Immunization Requirement
Virginia law now requires that all students receive a booster dose of Tdap vaccine prior to entering sixth grade if at least five years have elapsed since the last dose of tetanus toxoid-containing vaccine was given. All immunizations required for school are free of charge at the Fairfax County Health Departments or you may take your child to his or her physician.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our clinic at 703-913-8810.
