Langston Hughes Middle School Philosophy

Langston Hughes is a unique middle school with a diverse student population of varied cultures, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. The curriculum, designed to meet the needs of a diverse student body, reflects our commitment to the total child. Students are encouraged to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills through a variety of required and elective courses. Emphasis is placed on learning as a life-long process and the worth of each individual.

The faculty, administration, and supporting staff of Langston Hughes Middle School believe our primary responsibility is to strive to develop the full potential of each student - intellectually, physically, emotionally, and socially. We are committed to encourage the individual student to "Be the best he/she can be."

A diverse Program of Studies reflects our awareness of each student's individuality and our recognition that adolescence is the last phase of childhood. We strive to create a positive environment, one in which the individual student will be assisted in creating a smooth transition from the elementary school to high school.

The life experiences gained in our school environment will demonstrate to each student that respect for others as well as oneself is a necessity to emerge as a responsible, contributing, sensitive citizen. We sincerely believe the citizenship experiences gained at school encourage each student's willingness to work with one another in a democratic society.

It is our mission as teachers and administrators to provide a safe and fertile environment to nurture the growth and development of each student.
