Pathfinder: World of the Play

Step 1: Define your task: Look at the assignment/essential question.

Step 2: What materials might be useful for the project? Books, Encyclopedias, Online Encyclopedias, Websites.

Step 3: Find the material.

Suggestions:

For information about Fashion:

• Books about the history of fashion are usually located at 391. Ours have been pulled and are on the cart.
• Books about the history of specific time periods usually have a section on Fashion. Some of ours have been pulled and are on the cart.
• Use the Online Catalog to find books about specific cultures or time periods.
• e-books: There are several e-books that are very useful for this project.
  • Fashion, costume, and culture : clothing, headwear, body decorations, and footwear through the ages. Arranged chronologically. Includes fashion and history information.
  • Encyclopedia of clothing and fashion. Arranged alphabetically by subject. Use the previous e-book for basic information and look up more detail in this e-book by subject.
• Websites: There are numerous websites about costumes. Combine the word "costume" with a word about the time period, eg medieval costumes or ancient greece costumes.

For information about time periods:

• Most of our books about the history of specific time periods are about our country. Several of ours have been pulled and place on the cart.
• Use the Online Catalog to find books about specific cultures or time periods.
• e-books:
  • Encyclopedia of European Social History
  • Bowling, Beatniks, and Bell-Bottoms: Pop Culture of 20th-Century America
  • U*X*L American Decades.
  • Countries and Their Cultures Refer to the history section in the article on the country of interest.
  • Africa: An Encyclopedia for Students Arranged alphabetically. Use the timeline.
  • For more specific information, browse the list of e-books in the Gale Virtual Reference Library. Look under "history."

Step 4: Use the material. Read it and take notes. CITE YOUR SOURCES!!!

Step 5: Synthesize the information: Prepare and present the skit, poster, power point, song, poem, or other approved product. PREPARE YOUR BIBLIOGRAPHY.

Step 6: Evaluate: Does the paper you wrote answer the essential question. Have you met the requirements for the assignment?
