Pathfinder: Special Places in Paris

Step 1: Define your task: Look at the assignment/essential question.

Step 2: What materials might be useful for the project? Books, Encyclopedias, Online Encyclopedias, Websites.

Step 3: Find the material.

For information about France, French Regions, and French-Speaking Countries:

• Books about Parisian monuments are on a cart and may be used in the library. To find books about monuments in the public library, look for books on specific sites. Try books about Paris or France or buildings.
• Encyclopedias: World Book Encyclopedia: R 030 Wor and Encyclopedia Americana: R 031 Enc. Try the index.
• Online Encyclopedias: Grolier includes Lands and People, Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, and Encyclopedia Americana (best for this topic.)
• Websites:
  • Ville de Paris http://www.paris.fr/portail/english/Portal.lut?page_id=8207 A direct link to the visitor's section of the official website of the city of Paris. Check out "Heritage and sights" or "Parks, woods, and gardens." This is a great place to start.
  • Paris.org http://www.paris.org Click on the English section under "monuments" or "Museums."
  • Architecture of France http://www.greatbuildings.com/places/france.html From Great Buildings Online.
  • Paris Tourism http://www.paris-tourism.com/index.php A travel website. Click on "Popular places in Paris" or "Museums in Paris."
  • WHTour.org http://www.world-heritage-tour.org/europe/france/map.html An interactive map of France. Click on links to Paris or Versailles to get to 360 degree photos of buildings.
  • Pariserve http://pariserve.tm.fr/English/parisA good source of information on quarters of Paris.
• Search Engines:
  • Try and advanced search in Google, Ask, Yahoo, or any other search engine to try to find the official website for the landmark.

Step 4: Use the material. Read it and take notes. CITE YOUR SOURCES!!!

Step 5: Synthesize the information: Prepare and present the skit, poster, power point, song, poem, or other approved product. PREPARE YOUR BIBLIOGRAPHY.

Step 6: Evaluate: Does the paper you wrote answer the essential question. Have you met the requirements for the assignment?
