Langston Hughes Middle School was named for a prolific writer of the twentieth century, Langston Hughes.  Langston Hughes wrote several volumes of poetry, short stories, dramas, a Broadway play and two autobiographies.  He wrote primarily about African-Americans and especially about African-American life in the city.  His best known character, Jesse B. Simple, was described in numerous newspaper sketches.
