The survey is used to support our request for federal Impact Aid funds. For each school-aged student in your household, please complete sections 2 through 6, sign, date, and return the completed survey to your child’s school by November 5, 2010. Wednesday, October 27, 2010 - 3:00PM to 4:030PM: The annual Hughes Fall Fun Run will be held at the South Lakes Track at 3 p.m. Late buses will be available. This year parents and family members are encouraged to come out and participate with the students. We are promoting family involvement towards a healthy lifestyle. If the students see respected adults challenging themselves in this test of cardiovascular endurance they will be encouraged to not only run their hardest but also to participate in future endeavors that promote health and wellness. Registration for the event is $5.00. All participants will receive a Fall Fun Run shirt. The top 3 students male/female in each grade level will receive a trophy. We will also need plenty of volunteers to help out in a variety of ways. Please contact any PE teacher (Brady, Sobota, O'Connor, Taber, Wilson, or Manuel) as soon as possible in order to ensure that we have enough adult volunteers to have a successful event.
Monday, October 11, 2010 - NO SCHOOL. All Fairfax County Public Schools will be CLOSED in observance of the Columbus Day Holiday. Please make a note of this and plan accordingly.
Wednesday, October 13, 2010 - EARLY DISMISSAL for all Langston Hughes Middle School students. School willlet out 2 hours early(12:50PM) for a staff development training. There will be NO late buses, nor will there be any after-school programs on this day. Please plan accordingly. NOTE: This is only for students at Hughes MS.

FCPS 24/7 Learning (Blackboard) Student Accounts- Parents, if your student cannot access their Blackboard accounts because it will not accept their password, then have the student ask any of his/her teachers and they can reset it for them. Please note, the front office does not have this capability, only the teacher.

Thursday, September 16, 2010 from 6:30pm-8:30pm: Langston Hughes Middle School "Back to School Night 2010" will be held. All Parents and Guardians are invited to come and participate in the following:
- Follow your student’s schedule
- Meet the teachers

- Join the Hughes MS PTA in the Hall of Nations
- Visit the Book Fair in the Media Center
- Complete Parent Involvement Survey in room R-2

Wednesday, September 1, 2010 - 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm: The annual Langston Hughes Middle School "Open House" will be held this afternoon. This annual event is for all "New to Hughes Students" and their families. This would include all 7th grade, as well as any other new 8th grade students. Come and meet the teachers and administrators, and tour the school building. It is a fun time for all! We look forward to seeing you there!
