 Holmes Middle School Sports Leagues

Holmes Middle School provides a unique opportunity for students to participate in school-wide co-ed sports leagues after school.

Student participation is based on successful tryouts as well as meeting academic and behavior expectations as put forth by the league commissioner and coaches.
Holmes Middle School offers flag football in the fall, basketball in the winter, and soccer in the spring.  Tryout schedules will be announced throughout the school year during the lunch periods.

After-School Program (ASP) Q&A

Is there any monetary cost associated with this program?

No, this program is 100% free to all our students.

Will the programs currently mentioned on our Web site be offered during the incoming school year?

We will have a list of offered activities approximately the third week of September.

What happens if school is cancelled or there is an early dismissal?
The after-school program follows the FCPS schedule.  If school is cancelled, so is the ASP.  If students have an early dismissal, the ASP is cancelled.

Is there a penalty fee for parents picking up their student after 5:45 p.m.?
No, there is no penalty fee.  However, the ASP may deny participation to students whose parents consistently do not comply with the 5:45 p.m.
pick-up time.

Is there a waiting list for the after-school program?

No, all our students are welcomed and encouraged to actively participate daily in the after school program.

How do students enroll in the after-school program?
An updated registration form can be found on our Web site.   In addition, we will mail a registration form to all students at the start of the school year.

Does the after-school program provide homework help to students?
The simple answer is yes.  However, students who are weak in a particular subject are strongly encouraged to seek help directly from their teachers after school.

Can a student participate in more than one club?
Yes, as long as there is no conflict due to the days and times of those clubs.

How do students enroll in specific activities throughout the year?

Students enroll in the activities during the after-school program. Announcements regarding new after-school activities are made during lunch time.

Are students guaranteed to be in the club he/she selected?

No, unfortunately all clubs have a limited number of potential members. However, we do our best to provide equal opportunity and access to all students.

Do all clubs start on the same date?

Many clubs start by the end of September or the beginning of October. However, new clubs open throughout the school year.  We encourage students with similar interests to get together, look for a sponsor, and present a proposal for a club.
