Important News about the School Calendar

 

The Fairfax County School Board has voted to reduce the 2007-08 standard school year calendar by two days, making Friday, June 13th, the last day of school for students at Hollin Meadows (and most other schools in FCPS).  Please note that this will be a full school day (i.e., there will be no early release).

Make It Chevys Fresh Mex This Thursday!

 

Our first-ever “PTA Day” at Chevys Fresh Mex Restaurant will occur this Thursday, May 29th.  Grab a meal at the Chevys in the Mount Vernon Plaza anytime between 11:00 am and 10:00 pm, mention you’re with Hollin Meadows, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the HM PTA.  Be sure to stop by and support HM!

SOL Testing Continues

 We want to remind parents and guardians that SOL Testing for grades 3-6 continues until next Thursday, June 5th.  You can help by ensuring that your child is rested and begins each day with a good breakfast.  We send “good luck” wishes to everyone involved!

 

Quisiéramos recordarles a todos los padres y apoderados que los exámenes de SOL para los grados de 3ro a 6to extenderán hasta el jueves 5 de junio.  Usted puede colaborar, asegurándose que los niños estén bien descansados y tomen un buen desayuno.  Enviamos nuestros deseos de “buena suerte” a todos.

Principal’s Coffee Next Week

 Have a question for Principal Gates?  Join him next Tuesday, June 3rd, at 8:15 am in the library for Coffee & Conversation – the last get-together with the Principal for the 2007-2008 school year!  It’s a great opportunity to hear what Mr. Gates has to say about current events at HM and to have him respond to your questions, too.  We hope to see you there!

News from the Library

 

Remember that ALL LIBRARY BOOKS are due back to the library by Friday, May 30th.  Classes with no outstanding books by Friday, June 6th, will receive a special warm weather treat from the library.

 

We hope everyone will attend Scholastic's BOGO Book Fair (Buy One, Get One Free), for 3 days only, June 9th-11th in the library, from 7:45 am to 3:30 pm.  It's a great opportunity to stock up on summer reading books! 

 

Summer Reading Packets will go home with every student on the last day of school. More information about our Summer Reading Program will appear in the June Buzz.   

 

♦TODOS LOS LIBROS DE LA BIBLIOTECA deben ser devueltos en o antes del viernes 30 de mayo.  Los grados que no deban ningún libro para el 6 de junio recibirán un premio especial de la biblioteca.

West Potomac and Carl Sandburg Choral Departments will be presenting “Broadway Tonight” on June 5th, 6th and 7th at West Potomac High School.  Start time is 7:30 pm.  Please come and support some of our Hollin Meadows students

who will be performing in the Pyramid Choir at the show on Friday and Saturday Evenings.  They are Carla Casto-Claure, David Parces, Briana Ince, Ben Roberts, Josh Ransom, Brandan Lisenby, and Gabby Clautice.

 

El Departamento Coral de West Potomac y Carl Sandburg presentarán “Brodway Esta Noche”el 5, 6 y 7 de junio en Potomac High School, a las 7:30 P.M. Support the Hollin Meadows PTA by attending The Alexandria Symphony Orchestra’s 2008 Children’s Arts Festival, Pirates of the Caribbean.   Participate in art and dance activities, pirate costume contests, and limbo contests.  Also, touch and play real symphonic instruments in the Instrument Petting Zoo.   Finally, enjoy the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra  concert performance of selections from The Curse of the Black Pearl  and Dead Man’s Chest.
