DON'T LOSE THE FOCUS !
The HM PTA has created this video slideshow to show how vital our math and science focus program is to our students and school community. Unfortunatly this program will be eliminated under the currently proposed budget.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE HMPTA!

URGENT ACTION NEEDED BY HOLLIN MEADOWS PARENTS!

Hollin Meadows is at risk.  The proposed FY2009 Fairfax County education budget cuts will impact Hollin Meadows in the following ways:

*We will lose teachers including our science teacher, math focus teacher, and

   outdoor education coordinator

*Loss of equipment, material and supplies for Science Lab

*Potential loss of full day Monday and 7% reduction in teacher pay

*Some field trips and assemblies will be eliminated

*Some technology will be eliminated

The Hollin Meadows community must speak up and oppose budget cuts which threaten our school.

Here is what you can do to voice your opposition:

1)      Click on the links to email the Fairfax County School Board.  Cut and paste the text below into the body of your email and include your name and home address.

TEXT:   My children attend Hollin Meadows Science/Math Focus School in southern Fairfax County, Cluster 4. We are a unique school with 47 percent of our students qualifying for free or reduced lunch.  We pride ourselves in our diversity and we have strong support from our families.  Through the collaborative efforts of our administration, teachers and parents we have taken full advantage of our science/math focus and Project Excel funding to create an authentic learning environment. Through our science and math program, our children have hands on experience applying SOL initiatives.  This hands on experience includes a science lab, working garden and wildlife habitat.  If the proposed budget cuts to elementary focus schools and Project Excel funding are approved, every student at our school will be adversely affected.  Hollin Meadows will lose core programs and staff that enable our diverse, low-income school to meet the needs of all of our students and to be well attended by all families in our district.

I strongly oppose the budget cuts to elementary focus schools and Project Excel funding.
