Students from Mr. Pittman's class help raise over $1600 for Hurricane relief
Students volunteered to create signs, work at a booth at school events and run a bake sale to raise money for Hurricane victims. Our PTA's month long fund raiser, Coins for Katrina, was designed to support the Louisiana based family of a Hollin Meadows student. Students in Mr. Pitman's class expressed concern and turned those feelings into action by getting involved. Great Job!

Our MonsterMonster Builders
This year we have joined class rooms from around the globe in a monster design project. Each class has described, in twelve words, one body part of the monster. Then the descriptions were put together to form a complete description of the entire monster. Each class will build it's own version of the full monster, and classes will exchange photos and compare how they each interpreted the same description.

Students from Mr. Pittman's Class raised over $2000 for young children whose lives have been affected by the tsunami disaster in southeast Asia.
The effort began with a class discussion among a group of fourth graders on the day students returned from winter break. A class mate had spent his vacation in India, and students came to school very concerned for his safely. As the day progressed, students were relieved to hear that their peer had left India before the earthquake that caused the tsunami had occurred. The experience hit close to home for many students as they realized that many children in Asia had lost friends, parents, family and homes. (more)
