Acceptable Behavior
Code
Respect, Responsibility, Safety
This section is about something that's as simple as ABC. It's
called the Acceptable Behavior Code. It's not a secret code.
You can find it all over Hollin Meadows. Everyone is talking
about it! The ABC tells us how to act if we are to contine being
super kids and have a super school.ABC also stands for Always
Be Considerate. What does it mean to be considerate? It means
thinking about how your actions can make others feel.We show
we are considerate when we say:
I'm sorry.
Excuse me.
Please.
Thank you.
Being considerate means walking quietly by a classroom while
students are working.Being considerate means keeping the cafeteria,
bathrooms and classrooms neat and clean.Being considerate means
thinking about others.
REMEMBER:
Always Be Considerate.
Hollin
Meadows Acceptable Behavior Code (ABC) is based upon three important
expectations:
Respect
Responsibility
Safety
When we follow the ABC, we are acting in a way that is respectful,
responsible and safe. Sometimes,
though, we forget the rules or choose not to obey them. Every
choice you make has a consequence. You do or say something,
and then something happens to you as a result. For example,
you study really hard for a test, and you get an A! That's a
positive consequence. It makes you feel proud! If
you choose not to follow the rules, then negative consequences
may result. Then how would you feel? THINK
BEFORE YOU ACT
REMEMBER, IT'S YOUR CHOICE.
POSITIVE CONSEQUENCES
Caring about the students and adults in school will make Hollin
Meadows a safe and happy place for everyone. If
you are kind and courteous, you feel good about yourself and others. When
you act with respect, responsibility and safety in mind, you are
a good citizen of this school and community.

The Level 1 Rules:
Hollin Meadows students show acceptable behavior. We refrain from
chewing gum.
We walk quietly in the halls at all times.
We refrain from wearing hats, scarves/bandanas except for special
activities or religious reasons.
We only wear clothing with appropriate language and designs in
accordance with Fairfax County Public School policy.
We leave toys, Gameboys, Walkmen, etc., at home. The consequences:
These rules will be addressed by your teacher and discussed with
you. Your teacher or another staff member will decide how to help
you follow these rules successfully. Maybe a talk will result,
or maybe some disciplinary action will be taken. If these rules
are broken, some of your activities may be restricted, and you
may need some more supervision.
The Level 2 Rules:
Hollin Meadows students show respect for themselves and others.
They are responsible and act in such a way that is safe. We keep
our hands, feet and objects to ourselves.
We use appropriate language.
We respect the rights, property and ownership of students and
others.
We respect the authority of all staff members.
We behave appropriately in the cafeteria:
o We stay in our seats.
o We always demonstrate good manners.
o We respect the cafeteria hostesses' authority.
o We refrain from throwing food.
We follow established rules of the classroom and do not disrupt
learning for anyone.
We treat others with respect and dignity regardless of their skin
color, body size, gender, family background, religion and/or ability.
We tell the truth and complete our own work.
We follow directions the first time given.
We follow the established expectations for hallway, bathroom and
playground behavior.
The
consequences:
Because these rules are so important to your learning and safety,
the consequences are more serious. If you break a Level 2 rule,
the following actions will be taken:
The first time a Level 2 rule is broken, your teacher will record
the incident and decide on an appropriate consequence. Your parents
may be notified.
The second time and third time, your teacher will again keep a
record. Appropriate consequences will follow. They may include
a loss of privileges. You may receive closer supervision in order
to help you make the right choices. Your teacher may ask your
parents to help you live up to the Acceptable Behavior Code.
If you break a Level 2 rule a fourth time or do something totally
unacceptable even one time, a conference will then be required
with you, your teacher, your parents and the principal to determine
what the next step(s) should be to help you learn how to be successful
with these rules. Repeated
Level 2 violations may result in additional restrictions or suspensions
from school.
The Level 3 Rules:
Hollin Meadows students always obey the laws of our school and
community. We do not destroy any property.
We do not possess weapons or drugs of any type.
We do not fight with, hurt or threaten anyone. The consequences:
Level 3 rules are very serious issues. They will be addressed
by the adult in charge and must be reported immediately to the
principal. Your parents will be notified. If necessary, the proper
legal authority will be notified and involved. If you cause damage,
you will have to pay for it. You may be suspended from school
and/or referred to the police or court. Written documentation
of Level 3 violations will be kept on file.
