Appropriate Student Dress
STUDENTS:
- All students are expected to dress appropriately for the educational environment. Any clothing that interferes with or disrupts the educational environment is unacceptable. Clothing with language that is vulgar, discriminatory, obscene, or that promotes or depicts weapons, drugs, alcohol, tobacco or violence is prohibited. Clothing (including shoes) should fit, be neat and clean and conform to standards of safety, good taste and decency. Clothing that shows the midriff or underwear is prohibited. Examples of prohibited clothing include, but are not limited to: sagging or low-cut pants, tube tops, low-cut necklines, halter tops, off the shoulder tops and backless blouses.
- Students should wear appropriate shoes for P.E. and playing on the playground. Proper ankle support, good traction and total coverage of the foot are key to staying safe. No flip-flops.
- Watch /listen to weather reports to determine appropriate outerwear. Please note that our school has outdoor hallways that are used everyday.
- Remember to take coats, jackets, sweatshirts, etc., from the playground.
- “Heelies” (shoes with built-in skate wheels) are not allowed at Hollin Meadows because they pose a safety risk to students.
PARENTS/GUARDIANS:
- Monitor their child’s dress, for inside and outside and make changes as needed.
- Label their child’s clothing, especially jackets, sweater and sweatshirts.
- Check the lost and found (located outside the gym) periodically for missing items.
TEACHERS:
- Monitor student dress and follow up as necessary, ie covering up, calling parent, contacting an administrator.
- Stop class each day at the end of recess to check for missing jackets, etc. before coming back into the building.
