Virginia law requires regular school attendance by every child and
places the responsibility for attendance upon the parent/guardian.
Parents are requested to notify the school office with a message on
the school attendance line, (703-718-8383) note, or phone call, when
a child is to be absent or tardy.
When students are absent, their attendance records will document
whether the absences are excused or unexcused. Regulation 2234.3
defines excused and unexcused absences. Reasons for unexcused
absences may include family and/or student vacations, childcare
situations, nonschool-related activities, missed school bus, or other
reasons unacceptable to the principal or his or her designee. Family
vacations should be scheduled not to conflict with the school
calendar.
