Library - Frequently Asked Questions about student access to the library facility and resources

When may I visit the Library?

  • After 7:20 a.m. to check out or return books
  • During class with a pass/assignment book pass.
  • During lunch with a library pass from the cafeteria
  • After school, Monday and Wednesday, with a pass from one of your core teachers - science, English, history or math.

How do I check out a book?

  •  All of our students and staff have a card on file in the library. Just bring your selection to the circulation desk.

How many books may I check out?

  • You may check out a total of 3 books at one time.

I have overdue books, may I check out more books?

  • No.   If your record shows that you have an overdue book(s), you will have to clear your record by either returning the item(s), renewing the item(s) or paying for replacement of the item(s). Overdue books not cleared from a student's record will have a consequence of quarterly deduction of points from their Hawk Card until the account is cleared.

How long may I keep a book?

  • Books are checked out for 3 weeks and may be renewed. Just bring in your book to the library and we will renew it for another 3 weeks.

What happens if I lose a book?

  • If you lose a book, it must be replaced at the current cost of the book.
  • See Library Staff for the actual costs of a lost book.

Where do I return books?

  • You may return books to the "mail box" return outside the library door  or to the "book return" slot in the circulation desk.

What can I use the library computers for?

Students may use the computers in the library for:

  • Searching the Library Online Catalog for FCPS resources.
  • Searching the Internet for specific research assignments.
  • Searching the FCPS Online Databases: Grolier, EBSCO, eLibrary SIRS, Gale

Is there anything I can't use the school computers for?
