Performance Dress(top)

All Chorus members are to wear:

- Boys: black dress shoes, black socks, black dress pants, white long sleeved ironed tuxedo shirt (borrowed from HMS), bow tie and cummerbund (borrowed from HMS)

- Girls: black dress shoes, black hose, long black skirt (mid-calf to ankle length and non-conforming to the body), white long sleeved ironed tuxedo shirt (borrowed from HMS), bow tie and cummerbund (borrowed from HMS)

Please contact Mr. Kavinski if you need assistance with finding or buying any of these items.


Activity Fee (top)

All choir students will pay an activity fee of $20 for the year. This fee covers the cost of the choir t-shirt (mandatory for our spring trip) as well as a bow tie and cummerbund usage fee. DUE BY SEPTEMBER 19th.


Volunteer Opportunities( top)
  • Bring Soda/desserts/cookies to concerts
  • Call parents to organize ushers
  • Serve as an usher. Either sitting in the back near the door to make sure people don’t enter or exit during a piece of music or helping move the choir groups around.
  • Type or Design flyers, programs, etc.
  • Create a choir parent email list for Mr. Kavinski at school
  • Help with set ups, program needs, or general projects during the school day
  • Help with Fund Raiser Distribution/tallying
  • District Choir Committee
  • Write choir department updates/articles for school and other publications
  • Chaperone for either of the festivals or another event where chaperones are needed
  • Serve as a board member for the HMS Choral Parent Association

Course Descriptions (top)

Beginning Level Chorus (Mixed Chorus) - Year

Grade: 7 & 8 Elective

This course provides instruction in proper vocal techniques and rehearsal practices. Through a variety of choral literature, students will experience two and/or three-part singing. Types of performances may include concert choral performances, choral choreography, and/or dramas. Required rehearsals and performances outside of normal school hours may be scheduled at the discretion of the director.

Advanced Level Chorus (Concert Choir) - Year
Grade: 8 Elective
Prerequisite: Audition by the instructor.

This course offers advanced instruction in vocal techniques, music fundamentals, and sight-reading. Through a variety of choral literature, students will experience three and/or four-part singing. Types of performances may include concert choral performances, choral choreography, and/or musical dramas. Rehearsals and performances outside of normal school hours will be required as a part of this course.
