Important Information

10th grade Depression Screening To Be Conducted

Herndon High School will be conducting a depression screening for 10th graders during their PE/Health classes on 1/10/13 and 1/11/13. This confidential screening is offered to help students assess whether or not they may have symptoms consistent with depression.  After watching a short video covering the points listed above, the students will be given a screening form to complete.  The school psychologists, social worker and school counselors will score the forms.  The staff will follow-up and meet with those students whose scores suggest a higher degree of difficulty.  Parents of those students will be contacted and provided with community resources to assist their child.

Parents/guardians may choose to opt their student out of the Depression and Suicide Prevention program.  Students who are opted out are provided with age-appropriate, non-punitive alternative instruction. An Opt-Out form was mailed home.  If you wish to opt your child out of the Depression Awareness/Suicide Awareness Program, please return the Opt-Out form or contact your child’s school counselor by January 8, 2013.
