  • Continue to work on applications
  • Early Scholarship applications begin
  • Meetings with counselors continue
  • Request SAT and/or ACT scores be sent to early application school
  • Oct 13th DEADLINE TO REQUEST TRANSCRIPTS & RECOMMENDATIONS FOR EARLY APPLICATIONS
  • Oct 18th College Fair: 7:30pm at Fair Oaks Mall
  • Oct 19th College Night at 7pm at Hayfield Secondary
  • Finalize college essay
  • Make sure you have completed and/or scheduled all your college entrance exams
  • Request recommendations from teacher(s) & counselor

November

  • Nov 1st Deadline for College Application
  • Research Scholarships
  • Nov 9th DEADLINE TO REQUEST TRANSCRIPTS & RECOMMENDATIONS FOR DEC 1st APPLICATION DUE DATE
  • Make sure you have completed and/or scheduled all your college entrance exam testing (SAT/ACT)
  • Complete applications by PRIORITY DEADLINES to be considered for institutional scholarship/financial aid opportunities
  • Request SAT and/or ACT scores to be sent to REGULAR application schools

December

  • Dec 5th DEADLINE TO REQUEST TRANSCRIPTS & RECOMMENDATIONS FOR APPLICATIONS THAT ARE DUE JAN 1st through FEB 1st
  • Organize & complete all regular decision applications
  • SOME Early Applicants are notified of admissions decisions

  • June 22nd Graduation at GMU Patriot Center at 9:30am
  • JUNE 1st - Request final transcript to be sent to the college you will be attending and/or any waitlist school

Pathways to Baccalaureate Program
Check out the details on this extraordinary program. Open to all students interested in completing a 4 year degree, but thinking of starting at NOVA.  Download flyer here.

Senior Dues
Senior Dues for the Class of 2010 members is $80.00.  Students can bring a check, cash or money order to the 12th grade office, Room 117.  A table will be setup for parents to pay senior dues at Back to School night.  If parents wish to mail the dues then send attention to Linda Crawford.  Checks should be made payable to Herndon High School.

Graduation Date for the Class of 2010: Tuesday June 22, 2010,  9:30 a.m., GMU Patriot Center

Important Dates:

October 3 Parade- 9:30 am, Game- 1 pm,
Dance - 8:30 pm

Update Your Blackboard Accounts!
The Guidance and Career Center are both now able to send messages to students via the Blackboard system.  To get these timely email reminders and updates from your counselor and career center specialist, update your account following these directions:

  1. Login to Blackboard
  2. Look in the upper left corner for a box labeled “Tools”
  3. Click on “Personal Information”
  4. Click on “Edit Personal Information”
  5. Type in current email address
  6. Scroll down and click on “Submit”
  7. On next screen click “OK”

Volunteer Opportunities for High School Students
There are many ways that high school students can volunteer their time to help others. The FCPS Career Connections Volunteer Opportunities web site, found at www.fcps.edu/ss/CareerConnections/student/volunteer.htm , offers a list of organizations that have volunteer opportunities for young people, as well as tips on how to become involved in volunteer activities.
