Welcome to the Herndon High School PTSA for the 2011-2012 year!

The Herndon High School PTSA welcomes you to the 2011-2012 school year! Whether you are a returning Hornet family, or new to our school, we know you will find a welcoming school community.  There are several opportunities for parent involvement, and we encourage you to consider joining one of our many parent organizations.

The PTSA at Herndon High School is very active, and our success depends on your participation and support.  Dues are $10 for an individual, and $5 for faculty/staff.  Additional donations, of course, are welcome – all money goes directly back to student programs and activities.  The PTSA does not have any other fund raisers.  Any amount is welcome, but as a guideline we suggest three levels:  Gold  $35;  Silver  $25;  Bronze  $10. All PTSA information will be ONLINE this year. There will be NO hard copy PTSA packets. All forms can be found on the HHS website under Parents/PTSA. Please sign up today! You can join online as well!

On the HHS PTSA website, you will find a great deal of information on ways to help support your child’s school and the PTSA, including:

• Volunteer Form - listing several ways to volunteer throughout the year, including After Prom and All Night Grad Parties.You may also sign up on line at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dGJUOWJuYVBRdmo0UElSSkVDTWNzRGc6MQ" 
• Parent Pledge - Parents are asked to sign the pledge and demonstrate to your child and his/her friends you expect responsible behavior from them.
• Membership Form/Building Improvement Fund/Donation Form
• PTSA Newsletter Subscription Form- Sign up to receive a hard copy of the newsletter in the mail. Otherwise, the Newsletter will be available online on the HHS website.
• Grocery Receipts Program – sign up for Redemption Programs and help HHS!
• Student Directory Opt-Out Form.

 
Communication is key to the success of our PTSA.  The HHS website is a wealth of information, updated constantly – check it regularly for all information related to Herndon High.  You can also receive regular email updates by emailing us your email address to HerndonPTSA@aol.com.  (if you already receive our updates you do not need to resubscribe). Be sure you are also included in your grade level parent email lists.  To receive grade level communications, send your email address to your PTSA class liaison address listed below.  Again, if you already receive grade level updates, you do not need to resubscribe.

Learn to Laugh In Another Language…Host An International Exchange Student

The program is run through ISE (International Student Exchange), which has been in operation since 1982. Students are ages 15-18 from over 50 different countries. Students will go to the local high school, be immersed into your home as a member of your family.  Families can be any family type: mother and father with other children, a single mother or father with children, a single man or woman with no children, or a couple with no children. Families choose students by indicating interests: country of origin, male or female, music, sports, art and many other interests.
