Fall Sports Physical Collection Night
Tuesday August 3rd, 5:30-7 pm
Herndon HS Gym Lobby(Entrance #6)
Fall coaches will be on site to collect completed VHSL Physical forms for all athletes who plan to participate in a Fall sport. Please check the team page on the HHS Athletics webpage for other forms that may be collected by individual sports on that evening. A valid VHSL physical must be on file before an athlete is eligible to participate in any activity. Contact Amy Sheedfar, ATC, Head Athletic Trainer, with any questions at amy.sheedfar@fcps.edu
*If you are unable to attend on August 3rd, physicals will be collected on Tuesday August 10th from 7:30-8:30 am in the Gym Lobby. Athlete must receive a pass to take to their coaches before they will be able to participate in any activity at practices or try-outs.
**There will be collection dates for Winter and Spring sports prior to the start of the respective season
Free School, Sports, Camp Physicals
The Jeanie Schmidt Free Clinic (JSFC) is offering FREE school, sports, and camp physicals to students in Fairfax County, ages 3-18, on Saturday, August 14th at our clinic in Herndon, Virginia. To schedule an appointment, call 703-481-8160, or or go to www.jsfreeclinic.org/physicals A comprehensive services event, Free Physicals Day includes additional developmental assessments, activities such as crafts, backpack and book giveaways, as well as a free lunch for students and on-site enrollment for Medicaid and other health programs. The service is provided for children ages 3-18 who are uninsured and whose family income is twice the federal poverty level. Children must have a parent or legal guardian present.
Senior Portraits
Seniors will have several opportunities to take their senior photos – in August, and in October. It is strongly recommended that seniors attend either their August appointment and use the October dates as make-ups. There are no more picture dates at HHS beyond October, so if a senior would like to get a retake they have to travel to a Lifetouch studio. In addition, it is highly likely that if a student waits to take their first set of pictures in October and then wants retakes that the retakes will be taken in enough time to include that photo choice in the yearbook.
Lifetouch will mail information about senior portrait sitting times directly to the students. If your student does not receive a postcard in the mail or needs to reschedule their appointment they should contact Lifetouch at 1-800-445-1189. The dates for photos are:
August 18, 19, 20
October 6, 7, 8
Cap and Gown portraits will be taken on March 16, 2011.
New Store Needs Your Used Clothing
HHS Marketing students are participating in a new venture this year - Plato's Closet. The new store opens in September, and will be selling gently used brand name clothing. They will be looking for inventory (your gently used items) starting in August and will pay cash on the spot. Check out the flyer here for more information and stay tuned for the dates the buying will begin.
HHS FREE SAT Prep
Herndon High School is proud to offer ALL students FREE customized SAT prep easily accessible through Blackboard. The program will be available July 1st and can be accessible 24-7. This program is proven to be effective and involves personalized pacing and lessons as well as two full-length practice, timed SAT tests. SAT scores are very important for college admission. This is a valuable opportunity for our juniors and seniors to prepare for the SAT test and for our underclassman to prepare for the PSAT.
