Welcome to the Herndon High School Counseling and Student Services home page.
The mission of our staff is to provide equitable access and services to all students enrolled at HHS. Students are exposed to a rigorous course selection process. The school counselors, assigned alphabetically, provide academic advisement, career and personal/social counseling services that help students meet their post secondary goals and aspirations. The Career Center Specialist supports the Student Services program by providing career awareness and exploration resources for students and parents.
If you haven't done so already, please take time to meet your student's counselor. The Staff of HHS Student Services/Guidance looks forward to working with you.
Communicating important information to parents is an important function of the Student Services department. In addition to updates on the HHS mainpage, “phone outs”, and other announcements, counselors will be utilizing group email notification through the Parent View/Naviance system. It is very important for ALL PARENTS who have internet access to register for Parent View. Registering for Parent View enables parents to have access to their students teachers’ blackboard pages and to utilize career inventory and college planning tools. It also organizes parent email addresses into various appropriate categories that allows us to send pertinent and timely information relevant to your student.
Please also take advantage of the Fairfax County Public School System Career Connections for a wealth of helpful information for parents and students on an endless array of topics.
HHS FREE SAT Prep
Herndon High School is proud to offer ALL students FREE customized SAT prep easily accessible through Blackboard. The program will be available July 1st and can be accessible 24-7. This program is proven to be effective and involves personalized pacing and lessons as well as two full-length practice, timed SAT tests. SAT scores are very important for college admission. This is a valuable opportunity for our juniors and seniors to prepare for the SAT test and for our underclassman to prepare for the PSAT.

Schedule Change Information (updated Sep, 2011)
Herndon counselors spend considerable time assisting students with their selection of appropriate courses. Since all decisions regarding staffing, instructional supplies, etc. are made based on those selections, change requests will only be accommodated under limited circumstances. All students (honors, AP and regular) must remain in their current class until the end of the first interim marking period. The attached form has been provided to guide the student and family through the change request process. Schedule change requests can be submitted at any time, but will be reviewed by the schedule change committee beginning October 17th. Questions should be directed to the student's counselor. (See guidance staff contact information here.)
The Schedule Change Committee will begin reviewing schedule change requests October 25th.
