Prosperanta Calhoun, Assistant Principal
Prosperanta Calhoun is honored to serve as the administrator for the Class of 2013. Her successful experience as a parent, teacher, and mentor, serves her well in her duty as an assistant principal. Throughout her twenty years in education, she has sought to increase academic performance and social development for all of her students by setting high expectations. During Mrs. Calhoun's career, she has been fortunate to work with an ethnically and socially diverse group of learners, having worked at Glasgow MS, Langston Hughes MS, Liberty MS, Longfellow MS, and Herndon MS prior to her tenure at Herndon HS. Mrs. Calhoun believes that a successful educational program requires an atmosphere that fosters continuous learning. This includes supportive and caring teachers, parents, administrators, and other staff members. Mrs. Calhoun initiated and currently manages two groups, called "Ladies by Choice" and "Somos Hermanas," that promotes positive decision-making for young women.
Mrs. Calhoun's various roles at Herndon High school and beyond have focused on building the right relationships to ensure students' success. Her experiences as a Middle and High School Classroom teacher, School Plan Committee Chair, School Accreditation Committee Chair, and Middle School Assistant Principal have given her a unique perspective for the role of Assistant Principal at Herndon High School. Currently, she provides instructional leadership for the mathematics, ESOL, and Media Center. As an instructional leader, Mrs. Calhoun works collaboratively with teachers to develop written plans for the coordination and articulation of instructional goals.
Mrs. Calhoun is a graduate of Jacksonville University with B.A. in French and she is certified for teaching in French and Math. She also obtained a Master's in Educational Leadership from George Mason University.
