Frequently Asked Questions

Library Cards

dot Every freshman/new student is issued a library card.  
dot The card is valid until the student graduates or leaves Herndon High School.  
dot A replacement card may be purchased for $1.00.

Circulation Procedures

dot A student may borrow up to 8 books at one time.
dot The loan period is three weeks.  
dot Renewal is possible, but books must be brought in to be renewed.  
dot Magazines do not circulate.  
dot Fines are charged for overdue books.  The charge is 10 cents per day per book, up to a maximum of $5.00 for a paperback book and $10.00 for a hardback book. 
dot Lost items will be billed at the current replacement price.  
dot All obligations must be paid to receive a graduation cap and gown. 
dot As a courtesy, the Library sends overdue and fine notices to a borrower through one of his/her teachers.  

Library Passes

dot A pass is required for admittance to the library during class hours and during Stinger time.

 
Food

dot Covered beverages are welcome in the library.
dot No food is allowed in the library.
 

Copier Charges

dot Xerox copies can be made for 15 cents each.
dot Back-to-back copies are not available.  
dot Change is available for small bills.  

Other Guidelines

dot Students are expected to take care of the Library furnishings, push in chairs, place trash in proper receptacles, and return materials to their proper location.  
dot Consideration and respect for other Library users is expected at all times.  
dot Library materials should be checked out properly and handled with care.  
dot Holds may be placed by a student on books currently checked out.  
dot Back issues of magazines should be returned to their appropriate boxes.
