In order to apply for financial aid you will have to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This can be done online or a printed copy of the form can be obtained from the Career Center. (This year's online processing has been improved). Students may apply for a PIN that enables them to save work before and to check on status after submission (Pin Setup). This is the first step in the process. Generally speaking aid packages tend to be more generous the earlier the FAFSA is submitted. You may use estimated figures to send in the form as soon as possible after January 1st of the senior year.

Pay special attention to deadlines and specific instructions as you go through the process and keep your eyes open for opportunities with family employers, associations and other local sources. The following is a list of sites that should be helpful:

• FCPS Scholarship Resources - Database on scholarships locally available. Does not reflect all aid available. Be sure to contact colleges you are interested and ask about specific aid they offer.
• FastWeb - A free, searchable scholarship database that enables you to locate sources of aid suitable for you
• Financial Aid Info Page - Rich offerings on everything from scam alerts to scholarship searches.
• Financial Aid Awareness and Readiness - a great resource for frequently asked questions regarding FAFSA and financial aid.
• The Federal Government - The largest provider of financial aid, the federal government has a great deal of information on student financial aid on its site. Here good place to start.
• NCAA Clearinghouse
  Initial Eligibility Information.Contains information on student-athlete eligibility and recruiting, sports playing rules, and more.
• Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation Scholarships

High school students and their parents can now access district and school-based scholarships through Family Connection, a comprehensive program for college and career planning.

High school students access Family Connection through their FCPS 24-7 Learning site (fcps.blackboard.com).

High school parents need to REGISTER for an FCPS 24-7 Learning Parent View account to access Family Connection and scholarship information. Go to fcps.blackboard.com and login using the followint information: Username: parentreg Password: newuser

After filling our required information, print out the page with your registration number. Bring that page, along with a picture ID, to your student's grade level office. You will receive a password by email.
