Funding provided in whole or in part by Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act federal funds and supported by the Greater Herndon Community Coalition

ABOUT THE GREATER HERNDON COMMUNITY COALITION

School-Community Coalitions were established in 1993 and were organized around the boundaries of each high school and their feeder schools. The Greater Herndon Community Coalition (GHCC) was established in October 1994 as a result of a meeting of concerned parents, educators, and community organizations, including the police and recreation departments. The participants agreed that greater community-wide attention is needed to ensure the safety of our youth.

Each of the coalitions receives its primary funding from the federal No Child Left Behind Act funds, Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities subsection. Additional funds come from individual fund-raising efforts and donations from individuals and businesses.

The GHCC serves the area defined by Herndon High School . This pyramid includes public and private schools in the Herndon-Reston area. The public schools that are included are Aldrin Elementary, Armstrong Elementary, Clearview Elementary, Dranesville Elementary, Herndon Elementary, Hutchison Elementary, McNair Elementary, Herndon Middle, and Herndon High.

The GHCC is united in a drive to help ensure the well-being of all youth in the Herndon community. We dedicate our efforts to provide information and education about preventing under-age drinking, drug-abuse use issues, and personal character issues faced by our young citizens, because all kids are capable of success, no exceptions.

Our meetings are normally held on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 3:30 pm at Herndon High School in the Principal's Conference room. Someone once said that “the heart of a volunteer is not measured in size, but by the depth of commitment to make a difference in the lives of others.” Won’t you consider making a difference in the lives of our youth and join us for an upcoming meeting?
